Bridget Tsai Australasian Extracellular Vesicles Conference 2020

Bridget Tsai

Bridget is a second year PhD student from the University of Auckland. Her research involves understanding how antiphospholipid antibodies alter placental extracellular vesicles to cause pregnancy diseases. Antiphospholipid antibodies can increase a woman's risk of recurrent miscarriage, severe preeclampsia, intrauterine growth restriction, preterm birth and stillbirth. It is currently unknown how the antiphospholipid antibodies contribute to the development of these conditions. However, the placenta is known to be involved and we hypothesize that the disease progression is in part mediated by placental extracellular vesicles, altering healthy feto-maternal communication.
