Cherie Blenkiron
Cherie is a Cancer Geneticist by training, gaining her PhD from the University of Edinburgh and subsequently moving to The University of Cambridge to begin her work on profiling microRNAs in breast cancer. Her move to the University of Auckland, NZ, in 2009 coincided with the establishment of a research program investigating the potential for microRNAs to act as non-invasive blood biomarkers for disease states. This work inevitably led to the investigation of extracellular vesicles as carriers of these microRNA cargo. Cherie is currently the Associate Director of the Hub for Extracellular Vesicle Investigations based at the University of Auckland, only the second EV-focused facility to be established within Australasia. Having helped to establish ANZSEV in 2021, she is the current ANZSEV Secretary.
